Erotic Art History – Franz von Bayros

May’s erotic artist in history is Franz von Bayros (b. 1866 – d. 1924).  He was an Austrian commercial artist, painter and illustrator who, at the age of 17, was accepted in to the Vienna Academy and studied under historic portrait painter Eduard von Engerth. Franz also belonged to the Decadent movement of the late 19th century and used fantastic themes in some of his erotic works.

From what I’ve learned about this artist is that his most famed piece of work is a portfolio named Erzählungen am Toilettentische (Tales at the Dressing Table) done in 1908.  The details of it seem sketchy, as some say that this book was deemed to be morally dangerous to society and so he was arrested and forced in the exile.   This doesn’t seem to hard to believe as we’ve seen other erotic artists imprisoned for there art as well.  Although some reports say that he just traveled to Paris an Italy during his studies, and that his exhibitions where well received.  This is the first artist where I’ve found some conflicting information and so I’m not sure what to believe.

What I do know is that I find his art really interesting to look at.  There is so much detail in the backgrounds and the figures them selves are quite blank so they really draw your attention.  I have here only a small collection of his art because there is a ton of it.  If you’re interested in seeing more they I would suggest you go here.  There is 12 pages of his art and I’m pretty sure that’s not all of it.  Enjoy. ^_^

Where do you find this crazy (and awesome) art? The one with the penis-snail is funny as hell. Also, is that a dog munching on the muff of the girl using her foot on that lady? This isn’t as risque as Martin van Maële’s stuff, but it is still out there.

I love that penis snail! That one of my favorites. As to where I find these artists, it’s just a lot of research on many different sites. I look for those that have interesting art and how much. I don’t want to do one that just has a few pieces. I like the ones that have a large collection. I also like the ones that draw the more risque images. I guess it just shows that 100 plus years ago, people where drawing hardcore/taboo stuff too. Things really haven’t changed much I guess. And yes, I do believe that dog is going to town on that lady’s cleft.
