Learn About Me Monday – Games I Don’t Play

One thing that I’m always strangely interested in, is the games others don’t play. By that I mean the games we buy but never get around to playing or never finish for one reason or another. We get all excited for a certain title only to be let down, get distracted by another new game, find that we have to time to play or any other reason we can think of. I’ve got a long list of them that I am trying to get through. Splatoon is my current game of choice, but I’ve decided to put it on a bit of break (just a bit) to play through my long list of neglected games. Let me run through all the ones I can think of.

Currently Playing

Spider-man play set for Disney Infinity – WiiU

Rayman Origins – 3DS

Just Completed

Guacamelee – WiiU

Stealth Inc 2 – WiiU

Yoshi’s Island (GBA on 3DS)

Neglected Games

Toy Story pay set for Disney Infinity – WiiU

Guardians of the Galaxy play set for Disney  Infinity – WiiU

Zelda: Skyward Sword – Wii

Batman: Arkham Origins – WiiU

No More Hero’s – Wii

Started, Never Finished

Zombi U – WiiU

Assassins Creed III – WiiU

Monster Hunter 3 – Wii

Metroid Prime: Corruption – Wii

Metal Gear Solid 3 – 3DS

Pokemon Sapphire – 3DS

Disgaea – DS

Pokemon White 2 – DS

Ico – PS2

Katamari Damacy – PS2

I think there’s more, but I can’t remember them right now. The reason I’ve neglected them is I just haven’t had the time. Once I had kids, all my game time went out the window. That or it’s because I will not play a violent game around my kids. Cartoon violence is okay, but not the  realistic stuff. I’m slowly chipping my way through it all though.

What games do you have in your neglected game library?

Here’s some games I’ve been meaning to play at some point:

    – Never started –
    “Okami”
    “Persona 3 + 4”
    “Ratchet & Clank”
    “Jak & Daxter”
    “Silent Hill 2”
    “Zone of Enders”
    “Valkyria Chronicles 1 & 3”
    “Tales of Symphonia”
    “The Misadventures of Tron Bonne”

    – Started, but never finished –
    “Final Fantasy 8 + 9 + 12”
    “Silent Hill 1”
    “Parasite Eve”
    “Valkyria Chronicles 2”
    “Tactics Ogre”
    “Jeanne D’ Arc”
    “Tales of Eternia”
    “Disgaea 1 + 2”
    “Policenauts”
    “Suikoden II”
    “Threads of Fate”
    “Legend of Legaia”
    “Xenogears”

My sister’s a huge fan of the Disgaea and Persona games, so I feel like I should at least get caught up on some of those.

Don’t have too many that I’ve totally neglected, so I’ll put those aside. That said, this is (kinda) a difficult one to answer. I mean, there are games that I haven’t finished that I’d like to, and there are games that I didn’t finish because I just didn’t find them engaging enough. That’s not to say that I can easily tag each unfinished game as one or the other. I think of MGS4, for example, as being a game I meant to finish, but it could very well have been the case that I gave up due to the Kojima’s overwrought storytelling (some neat themes, but man is it convoluted). Anyway, here is a short (?) list of games that I (currently) feel like I should finish:

    ICO
    Muramasa: The Demon Blade
    Dragon’s Crown
    Disgaea 3
    La Pucelle: Tactics
    Bioshock
    MGS4
    MGS5: Ground Zeroes
    Deus Ex: Human Revolution
    Mirror’s Edge
    Transistor
    Superbrothers: Sword and Sworcery EP
    Monster Hunter Tri*
    P.T.**
    LoZ: Majora’s Mask

There is a whole slew of NES/SNES games that I never finished as a kid, but I’m not sure they’re worth mention. Also, there are certainly more that I’ve forgotten. One nice thing about having a backlog, though, is that I don’t buy many games nowadays. I have a hard time justifying buying something new, when I haven’t finished what I already have.

    * – I really enjoyed MHT, but the grinding got old after a while, especially doing it solo.
** – I feel like I should finish this, if for no other reason than that I have it and it is no longer a thing. Probably not a very good reason.

That’s a good list. Sword and Sworcery was very good, but I got screwed when I played it and so my experience was soured. I really enjoyed Muramasa. It’s one of my favorite Wii games. Good luck with your list. ^_^

      • JJ Says:

If you don’t mind me asking, how were you screwed while playing S&S? Was it a problem with the game, or something outside of it?

I had a great time with Muramasa. Particularly liked the hot-spring scenes (Momohime is pretty cute). Unfortunately, life interrupted, and I haven’t had a good chance to get back into it. Someday, though. Someday….

Gosh, I can’t quite remember how it happened. It had to do with me not being aware of the moon phases which resulted in me not being able to progress properly. I can’t give more info then that I’m afraid, it was a few years ago when it happened. I just started over once I had learned my lesson. Beyond that though, it was a very good game and I did enjoy it once I started again.
