This day in gaming history. Final Fantasy 15 is ten years old...and nobody's played it yet (no, demos don't count.) I speak no hyperbole when I say that the game is a mere 18 months away from surpassing the development time of Duke Nukem Forever.

Is there any point in releasing it now? They've poured untold amounts of cash into since they announced this game for the Playstation 3, and have made some rather questionable decisions with it. Even if it becomes a massive hit when, or if, it gets released I just don't see how it can make its' money back.

I want to say I'm pissed off about this, but given the industry's dubious behavior in regards to leading ladies and female characters in general (especially recently) that's just one more +1 to my increasing bitterness. Frankly, I'm more angry at the fact that I'm not surprised.

So apparently Nintendo is getting serious about adapting their properties into movies.

Yeah....I'm not sure how I feel about this. On one hand, I'd love to see movie adaptations of video-games not suck and if Nintendo is the company to spearhead that (because we sure as Hell know Angry Birds and Ratchet and Clank aren't cutting it) then that would be awesome. On the other hand, ever since the tragic passing of Satoru Iwata I've noticed that any Nintendo related news has been about things like smartphones and collaborations, and now movies. We all knew that change was coming when the new CEO was given the boss' seat, but if this leads to Nintendo veering away from video-games and becoming yet another Squeenix, Capcom, Sega, or...

*dry heaves* Let's hope not. And finally...well, we all remember what happened last time Mario was on the big screen.

Yikes...well, here's hoping it goes better than last time.

Honestly, as a stand-alone B-movie (and if Dennis Hopper was replaced with Tim Curry and he went full ham) there is fun to be had with the movie; preferably after a few beers. It has some cool visuals and a great cast, and while the action is nothing special it is amusing. But as an adaptation to the Mario Bros, it just fell flat on its' face.

News on the development of both Resident Evil 7 and the remake of Resident Evil 2.

I am intrigued that, to paraphrase them, "The feedback from Resident Evil 6 is helping us shape these games." Resi6 was not well liked and for good reason, as the story was a laughable and disjointed mess, there was no scares or frights to be found, and there were only two insultingly easy puzzles throughout the entire game. Suffice to say, it wasn't very good. That being said, I can't help but wonder if they're genuinely taking criticism or heart or just telling us what we want to hear. Guess we'll have to wait until the games come out to find out.

I am crossing my fingers and praying for Rockstar to finally pull the trigger and get to work on and release Bully 2!!
As for the Red Redemption sequel, its all but guaranteed that it will be there next big project, and I am more than okay with that!!

So, Battlefield 1. Anybody excited for it? Judging from the over one million and still climbing likes of the trailer, I'd certainly say so. And I must admit, this is the first Battlefield game and military-themed shooter in general that I've genuinely been excited for since Gears of War 3, as last-gen was so over-saturated with gray and brown military shooters with "Grrr, war!" tones that it got pretty fucking exhausting. Not only is Battlefield 1 exploring uncharted territory by doing World War I, but it judging from the trailer focusing on several different characters in several different locations it appears that the game will also have a variety of playable protagonists instead of yet another interchangeable white dude that can be found on every other game on store shelves. So I'm excited for the game, and so are a ton of other people.

So would it surprise you that EA almost killed the game before it even saw the light of day?

Basically, they were worried that their younger audience wouldn't bite because they thought kids didn't know that World War I or any war before Vietnam ever even happened. Yeah. You read that right. Not only did EA pretty much just admit that they market their M-for-mature games toward small children, but they think that said children and audiences in general are fucking idiots. Apparently EA themselves don't know that much about World War I either, because one studio exec was concerned that trench-warfare would be too boring, oblivious to the fact that far more than trench-warfare wasn't the only thing that happened. It wasn't called "The war to end all wars" because they thought it was a clever marketing ploy!

This is not the first time something like this happened. Activision sat on Brutal Legend for years before the rights went to EA and the game was finally made because the executives felt that audiences didn't want a game based on heavy metal fantasy. We saw the bright and colorful Overstryke become the dreary and dismal F.U.S.E. and why last-gen was overrun with derivative gray and brown shooters chasing that Modern Warfare dollar. We saw survival/horror and JRPGs all but disappear from the mainstream market because publishers and marketers arbitrarily decided that gamers didn't want them anymore. We saw developers fight tooth and nail to keep their female protagonists female because the studio higher-ups think gamers think playing as a woman "is totally gay, bro!" We even saw, disturbingly, publishers insist that single-player experiences couldn't sell anymore and leaned heavily toward multiplayer-only experiences despite the overwhelming success of games like Bioshock, the Arkham games, and Dark Souls.

It genuinely makes me itchy under my skin to think of how many games never saw the light of day, or how many games had their tone altered, or how many protagonists were changed from female to male because the developers had the fear of god put into them by a publisher. It's maddening how this industry won't shut up about appealing when what they mean is that they just want more of the same audience they already have. It also never fails to piss me off that these people still have jobs despite being proven horrifically wrong on so many occasions. How is the guy who said "Women are too hard to animate" still employed after the PR disaster for him and Ubisoft that followed such an egregious comment? How are the guys who decided that survival/horror didn't sell anymore and turned Resident Evil 6 into a soulless AAA mess still working after critics and audiences tore it to pieces? How do the people who turned down Dontnod's 'Life is Strange' because they felt female leads couldn't sell still have a fucking job when the game they turned down became a commercial success and a critical darling? Or the same people who said point-and-click adventure games weren't relevant anymore despite gamers the world over having fallen in love with Telltale's The Walking Dead? How do ANY of these fuckwits who insist that anything that isn't a gray and brown military shooter with a grimdark tone and the shiniest graphics still have jobs in an environment where Minecraft, Five Nights at Freddy's, and fucking Undertale outsell them all?

I guess we'll never know for sure, but it's infuriating all the same.

Typical NK. You ALWAYS make more sense about these games than the makers. of them. That's why I don't play any of them any more. Maybe they should go out and actually see what it's like for real. Get shot at by professionals, eat dirt because your buttons keep you from getting too low, get the living shit scared out of you because it's REAL, etc. Give them something to think about, AND you'll have a line 20 miles long just WAITING to buy. Other than that, glad to see you still at it. Have a good one, my friend.

                              Thanks roger. *hugs*

In other gaming news, Telltale will FINALLY be revealing The Walking Dead, Season 3 this Sunday.

Also, here's a trailer to Watch_Dogs 2, a sequel nobody asked for to one of the most over-hyped and disappointing games in history.

Okay, cynicism aside, this one actually has some good things going for it. It looks brighter and more colorful this time around, and doesn't appear to be taking itself too seriously. Unlike the first one that, where there was some fun to be had, the tone was so grim and the colors so grey it made Gotham City look like fucking Candyland. Because of the different city there will also be a different protagonist, which is good because the previous protagonist, Aiden Pierce, was absolutely vile. Seriously, what the hell was Ubisoft thinking? "Hey, you know what would be great? If we made our main character an abusive, creepy, terminally unlikable criminal slime-ball!"

And again, it's good that the second game doesn't appear to be taking itself too seriously. Lets not kid ourselves here, the plot of the first game was something from an 80's or 90's sci-fi flick, yet the game acted like it was Citizen Kane. And the protagonist isn't a generic, interchangeable white dude for once! Here's hoping this protagonist is likable, which should be too hard because, again, Aiden was completely reprehensible.
