License to Drive

Do you have your drivers license?  If so, when did you get it?  If not… why not?  I tried for mine back when I was 16… but failed.  I didn’t try again until I was about 22.  My “why not” was, I was just lazy.  My girlfriend (soon to be wife) had hers so it was all good.  I finally decided to get it because I found that just about everywhere used the drivers license as a major form of ID and it sucked when I had to pass on things because I had none.  That and my girlfriend got tired of diving my ass around.

I’m surprised how many people I know in their 30’s that don’t have a license, that or they got one and then let it run out.  I even know some people that hate driving and have avoided getting it.  I guess that it’s one way to get out of taxiing people around. ^_^

Camping

Who here likes camping?  Anyone… anyone?  My family and I go once a year during the summer.  Not a long camping trip mind you.  Four days is about average for us.  Oh and we don’t trek out to the middle of nowhere, we go to the provincial parks in our area and camp there.  They have flush toilet stations scattered about and proper beaches too so it’s not hardcore roughing it.  Friends of ours took us out hardcore camping one year.  They drove us so far North in to the sticks I didn’t think I’d see civilization again.  We couldn’t even get a radio station!  No sir, not for me.  I can barley handle regular camping most of the time.  I don’t care for the outdoors much.  Too much dirt and… outdoor stuff.  But I go because my family really enjoys it.  I would never stay home and let them go with out me.

Do you enjoy camping and if so, how hardcore are you?

We’re all getting old

The other day I noticed an elderly couple in the local mall near my work.  They where quite in to their later years and they walked arm in arm down the hall to or from where ever they where going. It reminded me that I’m going to be that old some day.  Heck, we all will (assuming we all make it that far in life).  We’re getting old right now.  Yes, right now as you read this.  Sometimes it’s hard to see that far forward in life.  We might not know where we’ll be at that time in our lives, but make no mistake, we’ll all be there someday.

Imagine you in your 80’s or maybe even 90’s.  That’s a lot of history that you’ll have covered, you probably won’t be able to remember it all.  All the things you’ve see and places you’ve been.  You can think back to how things where when you where younger.  Heck, I’m 35 and I do that now!  I know when I was a kid we didn’t have a microwave or a VCR.  Penny candy was actually a penny at my local corner store and my first video game system was an Odyssey 2 (followed by my NES).  Who knows what kinds of things I’ll have seen between the beginning and then end.

Have you ever put thought in to your elder years?  Where will you be?  What things will you have done.  What things might you have missed out on.  What will be your full life story?  We all have one.  All those old people that others complain about where young like us once, and now have a complete life story that is unique to them.  Some times I’d like to ask them about the things they’ve done and seen, but I’m sure they’d think I was all kinds of strange… or that I was going to mug them.  I hope that someone asks me when I’m old.  I’ll be happy to tell them. ^_^

The Works

This evening, Wife and I had an opportunity to have dinner out.  Just the two of us.  It doesn’t happen very often so we decided to go to one of our favorite places to eat.  It’s called The Works and what it is, is a gourmet burger bistro.  It’s not a big place, but it’s huge in burger flavor.  Did I mention it’s also 100% Canadian?

Taxi Driver

So you might have noticed that I didn’t have any posts over the weekend.  The reason was that I had lots of family over.  When I wasn’t playing host with my wife I was being the taxi driver for said family seeing as none of them drive.  That being said, the time I was doing the taxiing was generally late in to the night so my posting time was nonexistent.

I don’t know if you play the taxi driver or the passenger during trips but it’s all ways appreciated if you put an offer out there to pay a bit for gas.  I generally don’t take it but I feel a bit taken advantage of if something isn’t offered to compensate.  We stopped off at a Tim Hortons and they bought me a doughnut, which was fine.  I know we don’t all have the money to give for gas, so at least I was thanked in some fashion.

Also, on a related note.  Crazy Taxi is one of my favorite games. ^_^

I.Q.

So the other day Wife and I where talking about IQ’s and the movie Goodwill Hunting (one of our favorite movies).  She decided to check out one of those free online IQ tests and see what our IQ’s where.  Now, this was only done for fun and we don’t really put much faith in any IQ test that you can do for free over the internet… but I was quite happy with my results.  According to Free-IQ Test I have an IQ of 131, which just puts me in to the “gifted” category over at IQ Test Center.

I’m a visual learner so any of the pattern questions I got really easy.  Math and numbers I can do fine but trying to find number patterns really threw me for a loop.  Word problems are the worst for me.  I’ll usually have to read them over several times to make sure I’m reading it right.

Wander on over and see what your internet IQ is.  You just might surprise yourself.
