A moment of your time please

The other day I submitted a t-shirt design over at Threadless.  It’s one of those t-shirt sites where anyone can submit something and maybe get it made in to a shirt.  I say maybe because I need your help for that to happen.  The designs sick around for one week and people vote on them.  At the end of the seven days, the ones that have received enough votes get made in to shirts for others to buy.  Yay!

All I ask is that you travel over to my shirt design and vote what you think it deserves.  Also, please feel free to spread the word via, twitter or facebook or what ever else people use these days for social networking.

Thank you very much. ^_^

What?!

So this morning there was this high school kid on the city bus listening to his iPod.  Loudly.  Really loud in fact.  So loud that the bus driver had to yell back to him to turn it down because he could hear it too.  Did I mention that the kid was sitting at the back of the bus?  Yup, that’s right.  Not all the way back mind you.  He was about 3 seats from the very back so we can give him that. o_o  Who the hell listens to music that loud?  I could say that it’s probably because I’m an old man of 35 that I don’t understand loud music.  But I’ve never liked loud music.  Not even as a teenager.  Sure I’ve turned up the music in my van because it’s an awesome song, but never to a ridiculous level such as that.

Pfftt… teenagers are stupid (not the ones that come to my blog though… you guys are all right ^_^).

Greek Mythology

So the other day I was out seeing Wrath of the Titans and I thought I’d share my thoughts on it.  Not on the movie it’s self (which was okay, a decent monster killing adventure), but on Greek Mythology.  I personally don’t know much about it.  When I was sitting in the theater I wish I did.  I wish knew more about the ancient Gods and who had sex with who because it seems very complex.  Then I was glad I didn’t know because I’m sure they totally butchered these ancient stories beyond recognition.

After the movie I did do some research and realized I was way in over my head.  It’s not like you can just learn about one or two of these characters… you need to learn about all of them.  They’re all intertwined in the craziest of ways.  It’s like a giant Greek soap opera.  So I’ll just stay content with knowing a few names and leave it at that.  I just know I won’t use Clash or Wrath as my base point of knowledge on the subject.

Surrealism

Surrealism is something that I’ve always loved.  Particularly surreal sculpture and stop motion.  I pretty much had forgotten my love of this type of art until a music video came through on my 3DS.  The song is called The Rifle’s Spiral by The Shins and it’s directed by Jamie Caliri.  I watched the video and, while I really liked the song, I found myself mesmerized by the video it’s self.  Even though it’s just a short 4 min clip, I loved the magical theme that runs through it and the creepy characters the inhabit this world.

Friday the 13th

I just realized that yesterday was Friday the 13th.  The most unlucky day of days during the years and I missed it.  Oh well, I’m not really superstitious, I could care less really but I know that some out there really go in for this sort of stuff.  I think it’s interesting how some of these superstitions came to be or how long some of them have been around or even how somethings are bad luck in some cultures and good luck in others.  Like how the number 13 isn’t bad luck in Japan, it’s the number 4 or how at one point black cats where considered good luck to sailors.  Fascinating!

Are you a superstitious individual or do yo know others that are?

Quotes

Do you have quotes in your head that have helped pave the way to be who you are?  How many do you have and who put them there?  I have a few that I remember my Dad telling me when I was little.  I couldn’t have been more then 9 or 10 but I distinctly remember him telling me “what ever you decide to do in life, make sure that you enjoy it.  There’s nothing worse then getting up to go to a job that you hate“.  That has always been in the back of my head and has helped me push myself towards a career that I’m passionate about.

Another one that my Dad put in my head was “don’t let people walk all over you“.  I’ve had a harder time with this one as I don’t like confrontation and so will sometimes let others win to avoid arguments.  I try, but I’m not always the alpha male that I’d like to be.  Some personal growth is still required in that area.

Finally, one of my animation teachers said “don”t draw for the money, draw because you love it“.  I’ve kept that one in my head too.  It’s fascinating how the things we read or hear can strike a cord with us.  It might not affect us for years, but when they do, things can all of a sudden make sense.

What are your quotes?
