Seems he got a stingray barb through the chest in the Australian city of Cairns.

Strangely enough the news really upset me.I guess it was the suddenness of it...I mean I figured he was going to be on this earth a long time annoying the crap out of ppl for several more decades... and I can't deny he was pretty prominent when you think about it.
But really... the universe smacked down the wrong baby dangler. -.-;

I just can't believe it.
It's so hard to grasp that he's dead. I kind of felt heart broken, the man was annoying but I really admired his courage or just down right stupidity and lack of concern for his personal self. Not only that but my dad always does a really good impression of him, so poor Steve was always a source of amusement to the family.
I guess it was just time to go, at least he did a lot in his life and acomplished so much. Though he may have been annoying, he should really be admired, he didn't die from a crock XD
By the way, I'm new and this really struck me, so I thought I would post.
G-day mates

Yes he was a bit annoying but he was a fun guy to watch handling venomous snakes like they were harmless. And he had sucha badluck with the stingray if it had piersed his arm instead he would have lived but from what i have read the stinger hit his heart and punctured it. The good news for him is that he didn't suffer. Just sting and then dead.
I am going to miss the crocodile hunter.
R.I.P Steve Irwin

The thing is, is that day he WASN'T taking a huge risk. He was swimming around underwater getting footage for a new documentary. And Stingrays are considered dangerous yes, but not deadly. Hell I'VE been around stingrays myself, along with a few other ppl who've had experience with handling them. I know where the barbs are and how the tails move and well...Originally posted by Lizard LickThe news is official now through the Associated Press. One thing to keep in mind...taking extreme risks usually costs a heavy price. If it's something one enjoys doing though, then have at it.
It was truly a freak accident. I guess I can see how it could've happened but...
Yeah the guy just seemed kindda invincible, y'know?
I was expecting him to be around to annoy my kids.

Steve Irwin was our future
I felt the same way, I expected him to be eighty and annoying the crap out of my kids. I teared up when I read the report. Though a lot of people were bugged by him, he truly was a remarkable man, accomplished so much, and will be greatly remembered as the greatest Crocodile hunter ever.
What a cool man, ya know? All his life he worked so hard to preserve nature and now he's gone, what a guy. I wonder if anyone could ever fill his shoes :\
Even if someone took up his all mighty croc throne, lets hope he doesn't say Crikey as much :P

I was talking more in general, and it doesn't necessarily have to do with animals nor that incident. More specifics were in order there. Of course, handling any animal is a risk...wild or domestic. It's always a game of chance.Originally posted by V.KyrieThe thing is, is that day he WASN'T taking a huge risk. He was swimming around underwater getting footage for a new documentary.
