  • Ok. This is too much spammination.

I dont know about you guys...but I'm getting abit miffed about the influx of spam. It seems to be about 2-6 a day now. And that is waaay too crazy.

I'm not sure what methods there can be put into place to possible weed them out...but if not, I'm wondering if its time to switch to a manual mode of accepting new members for a bit. A lot of these spammers have very obvious names in the first place so it probably wouldn't be too tough to just reject them at the gate.

Maybe set up a generic email to send out to varios applications to see if there is a response or a bounce-back. I dunno...just throwing ideas. Maybe anyone here have a suggestion?

Cause I really doubt just lock-n-ban is going to stop this hydra.

I almost wonder if TJA hasn't been targeted by trolls or soemthing....then again they're too sporadic and not really disruptive enouhg.. just plain annoying. I know what Cheetah DID do to keep them out and that seemed to work for a while but..I don't know theys eem to be getting aorund it now.

I think he said he was gunna upgrade the Forum soon... that will hopefully solve the problem.

That's putting it mildly , If I wanted to see Spam, I would get my coat and shoes on and go to the Grocery Store.

As for possible ideas for making the spam go away, I don't know if this is pracitcal or possible, but maybe if people had to activate their membership via e-mail some of the spam might go away.

try the board mod where they have to type in some scrambled letters and only a admin can approve the account.

This isn't the only phpBB forum where I've seen an influx of spam recently. It does get highly annoying when one sees porn, medicine ads and pointless spam such as phrases of just accented letters on a regular basis. I've been getting the crap in my website guestbook as well, not to mention BraveJournal though that has been rectified. Viagra, bank loans, Texas Hold'em...meh. I'd like to hang them from the tallest tree and let the vultures carve out what's left. Damn wankers...

You're definitely correct there. The lock 'n' ban won't work. It's been tried plenty. They just set up new user names and keep on spamming. Yes...I, know I'm posting this way behind the times. On the other phpBB forum I frequent, we're still trying to figure out how to deal with the same issue. WAR IS HELL.
