need some advice...very frustrated!!!!!

well....i have been doing alot of drawing latly and getting very frustrated with acouple of things and maybe some one out there went through it too. 1. having trouble with drawing cute or sexy eyes they always come out mean looking. 2. getting diffrent emotions from one particular face. 3. and the big one...HAIR!!!! now i don't expect a study course or anything but anything will be helpful...plus it will make me feel better if i know other people went through it to. thanks for reading this and much love and respect to all the artist out there.

eyes is not really something I'm good at but it depends a lot on what type of eyes you want, Manga, Disney, realistic, etc.

Er, Just do you know...those "How-to-draw-manga" books arent that good, they teach you ways to cheat around drawing, so it sucks you into only drawing manga style,because when you try and so something else, you keep saying "oh yeah in the manga book.." and then it's probobly wrong.

yeah i know i do have other refrence material i did start to suck me in i'm trying to find a balance somewhere in the middle of anime and disney...i guess when it boils down to it is to suck it up and practice my ass off...i think i get over excited and i jump head of what i'm doing instead of taking my time...i spend to much time thinking about the finished product instead of step one

My advice for you is learn and keep on drawing. I can't even remember how I learned how to draw hair or eyes, lol. Expressions will be a little more difficult to learn, but you will one day.

SKETCHING!!

First things first... How To Draw Manga books are freakin' awesome to have around for those time you need to have a little help getting a pose looking right... I've never seen those books "cheat" but eh, I only own a mess of em... so what do I know... :P

Feedback time... SKETCH!!!

for the love of all that is good and decent.. sketch things out first... not how you want it to look or rather how you think it should look, but rough shapes depicting how you want the figure to turn out...

Don't immediately jump into drawing a full figure at first, learn basics... head shapes, how the head connects to the neck and how the neck and torso actually match up... wait.. I'm getting ahead of myself...

just practice drawing parts of the figure at first... then slowly connect those parts into a sketch... all the while never putting final touches on the image... once you finally have something that's looking allright, heavy up the pencil lines so you know what you want to keep and what you want to erase...

overall, practice, practice and keep practicing... cause books aren't exactly the best thing you need, they tell you what to do, granted... but if you don't have the basics, you can't really do what they tell you to do, well enough to make it work...

so let's recap: Books are good, practice the basics - shapes, lines and connectivity, and sketch the image before committing to it... but above all practice...

thank you for your comments...i really appprciate it...yeah i have a big tendency to think detail first and sketch last..but in the last couple days i've been taking my time...like with that drawing above..i started out slow and it started turning out ok and then next thing you know i'm drawing nipples..lol..thank you again...i'm defentitly gonna take your advice and practice a hell of alot more.

Overall, don't get frustrated on your drawing, that doesn't get you any where.

try adding some pictures to show how you improve so we can give you some more help!

anyways, facial expressions are the hardest to get into. Try drawing eyes out on a seperate sheet of paper then draw them the way you want too. Make any fine adjustment to them and slap them on the character. But the eyes are not the only thing that shows expression. (just because the eye look angry doesn't mean they are angry, if you don't look at the whole face)

Try drawing pictures of the face make it look shocked, angry, scared, happy, and normal. and keep practicing till it gets better (expect to use a lot of paper) Once you have mastered the facial expression you can get into using body gesture to show the mood too.

You say your eyes have a mean look when you attempt to draw them cute or sexy...Like the other posters, it would be extremely helpful to have an example of a drawing you're attempting to convey these emotions with.

Having said that, off the top of my head, the only thing I can think of is to lower and level out the eyelids, as an expression of displeasure or malice often has the eyelids and eyebrows sloping down toward the center of the face. But this is a generality and may not hold entirely true depending on one's drawing style.
