Hi I've only been lurking around for a few days, mainly looking at omgktb's gallery, since I like that art style.

While scrolling through his gallery I came across one picture which I thought looked like a perfect candidate for me to attempt to recreate. I should mention that until I drew this picture I had never successfully drawn the female figure at all, so I was kind of surprised at the turn out.

The picture that I found at omgtkb's gallery was this one:


And after about 2 hours I ended up with this:



As my first actual drawing of this type ever, I'm pretty happy with the turnout. I was wondering if you guys could give me some hints on coloring (I'm aware there's a colored version of this one), or maybe bettering my art skills. I also hope I didn't offend omgtkb by basically just ripping off his art, I haven't posted it anywhere as my own and if I ever show it to anyone I'll always properly credit him.

did you freehand that just by looking? cause thats a pretty good job if you did as far as ripping off the character or anything, umm.... ahh.... its best someone else maybe take that one.

Yeah I did do it freehand just by looking at it, thanks.

Oh and I included that last line about the "ripping off" just because I wanted to establish myself as an honest person, I didn't want to imply that I was going to do anything of the kind, and just wanted to get off on a good foot. I was also given some advice from a friend who said that most artists find their own unique style by accident while imitating others' styles. Hopefully I can find my own style soon.

copying skills arent always bad... if you can copy well , you could start your own and it wil turn out awesome.

Allright... I suppose I should critique, cause... well, it's my picture used for the reference and the practice... ;;; anyhow!... it's interesting that you chose one of the pictures from back in 2004... and of Tabitha no less.. interesting choice... especially since it's an awkward pose...

Your pic has a couple of flaws that I'm gonna try to be nice about, but please forgive my blunt words...

Face/Head - Always try to use a guide when drawing, either the circle with the cross section lines or something, otherwise you'll always end up with the features not blending well together... the original was a 3/4 view towards the side, which you did with the mouth, but the eyes and face are more frontal than to the side... watch out for that in the future.

Chest - Always make a smooth bust, breasts always look better rounded or perky... don't try to force the curve on the breasts, let it happen naturally also the original had them turned away from the direction of the head, whereas you have them turning a frontal view...

Arms - Watch out there, you made the arm on the outside taper in too much and all you have to do is just erase the inside line, because of how you made the waist, the inner arm wouldn't have to show up...

Waist/Legs - Stretched them more than you had to, but overall not too bad... watch out for over extending and stretching, also be wary of stunting the growth in future drawings... even now I have times where I mess up with over lengthening or shortening limbs... ;; arms should fall mid thigh, so keep that in mind in the future;;

And now for my bit of meandering bit of advice... don't try to copy directly, use guidelines... guides are there to help the drawing flow better... even now I use guides whenever I draw something... whether it's a wireframe or blocks to circles... I haven't met a person who doesn't use guides at some point in a drawing...

I appreciate the advice. I wasn't exactly trying to be completely exact to your drawing, which can be seen in the fact that there is no tail at all, but it was more of a project to see if I could even come close to your style.

To be honest I have never used any guidelines in any of my drawings ever (not hard to see). I guess it's never too late to start though.
