      White knuckle, or white page.

      Hello!

Just looking over your work I hope you don’t mind if a throw you a tip. You don’t have to accept it or anything, but it is just something I’ve noticed and may help. But feel free to ignore it !

As I’ve looked over everything it seems to me like you are well on your way to understanding basic anatomy and shapes, one thing I would like to add is some physical training of the hand, not just of the eye. I can see you are working on shapes, as you have said so yourself, but from viewing your latest works I am guessing (assuming really) that you use a standard pencil –you know wooden, number 2, have to have a pencil sharpener- kind of tool. This is in no way bad, let me clear that up, but your lines are very harsh and strong. As if you were pressing down hard. Now I don’t mean full force tear the paper, but a line like that is hard to erase and thus leaves a identifying mark on the paper afterwards. Also it digs little trails in your paper which can make your pencil slide over messing up your line.

I would suggest not gripping the pencil so firmly, simple light marks that barely graze the paper, thus in effect giving you a sketch of what you previously wish to draw before you even really draw it. There are pros and cons to doing this of course.. A pro is that you can erase a line easily or change a picture you’ve been working hard on without being dissatisfied with it or blemishing it to harshly, and you also get a lot of practice for the feel of drawing with your mind instead of your hand. (I could go into blind drawings where you don’t look at the paper and thus reinforce your ability for hand eye coordination, but that is a bit far ahead for what I’m suggesting.) A con of this is the fact your works would be harder to scan and such light markings make it easy to smear the graphite across your paper. Though it is neat if utilized as a shadow method.

Anyway, if you grip the pencil just a bit lighter as if you were barely touching the page, your strokes would become faster, and over time you could pre-draw what you wanted and then just fill in to create a hardness of line or emphasize certain area more. Like for instance if you are drawing a profile pic you can use a darker line on the side not facing the viewer to throw it in the background! Or you could create a sense of mood with simply shades of line! But anyway, I fear I’m overcomplicating. Lighten your grip on the pencil or pen and draw lightly, this relieves stress from your hand and fingers and increases your drawing endurance. Also with swift line movements you can work out a basic pose quickly and continue drawing on it. Some artists use a blue pencil for this technique allowing them to draw poses and then pencil over then with graphite and simply erase the blue in the scanner. But I think just the added ease and less effort per drawing will help you immensely and advance quickly. Because once you can do basic shapes quickly, the easier it will be for you to move onto more complicated forms and still keep in mind your whole effect.

Anyway, as I said feel free to ignore this, I don’t know everything, but I do think it will help. Erk! Maybe this is too much advice! I don’t want to sound like I’m lecturing! Good luck with your work an draw on! You have a good starting talent!

yeah I see what you are talking about with the lines and visible marks, and I understand that it kinda makes it look a little sloppy. Its just a habbit though, just something else i need to work on , but yeah I completely agree. And I also have practiced the blind drawing, but I found I'm too much of a profectionist...

But first I want to work on the basics before worrying about perfecting the style, if you know what I mean. But yeah, i'll loosen my grip and practice what you said. Thanks for the advice bud

                      Thank you for the welcome

I have conquered my lazyness and finally scanned my pictures! I also realized that this isn't really the site to just dump your artwork on. So from now on I'll be posting what's appropriate for this forum (furry art if i'm correct). But I kinda promised artwork. Anyway, enjoy and come visit my deviant art page if you want to view my other work.

Yeah, but the thing is, I don't really have that much art to post ... I would love to post all over my beatiful artwork, if only there were such a thing. Plus I'm not sure how things work around here so I don't really want to spam your forums.

Oh, and do those links work for you?

well i cant speak in an official capacity (someone help me out) but i dont think anyone considers posting three pics as 'spamming' art is generally encouraged i do believe and if you dont have all that much, hey, no biggie, means less time to upload it all yeah?

as for the links, i get access denied, i do not have permission to view the page.
