Out of My Way

Want to try an experiment?  Next time you’re out walking around take notice of who moves out of your way or if you move out of others way.  I saw this on a documentary on short men.  It was noted that tall men will have vastly more people move out of their way then short men.  I thought that it could be taken farther and applied to everyone.  It would seem to me that people that are more alpha in their thinking would just walk straight and expect others to move out of the way for them.  While others will willingly move out of the way to avoid confrontation.

I’ve bumped in to a few people over the years.  I always apologize because I most likely wasn’t watching where I was going.  But then I got thinking, it takes two to bump.  Did the other person not see me too?  If they did, why did they walk in to me.  Where they expecting me to move out of the way for them?  I remember bumping in to a guy in the Montreal Metro.  I was going one way and he was coming at me.  I didn’t move and neither did he.  We crashed shoulders and he was very irate at me that I didn’t watch where I was going.  But when you think about it, he expected me to move.  He had no intention on moving and expected others to move out of his way.

I think that most people will move to try and avoid each other as they walk around, but there are those that will not.  Are you a mover or are you pusher.  I think it’s a interesting thing to check.  Try walking down a street or a hall and don’t move out of the way of others.  Don’t try to get in someone’s way, but don’t make an effort to get out of the way either.  Did people get out of your way or did some expect you to move?

Guest Gone

So my family visitor left for home today.  It was fun and busy while they where down and we got a lot of things accomplished.  Even though it was great to see them and spend that extra time together, it’s nice to have your place back again.  Playing the host and hostess can get tired after a while and can be a drain on funds too.  We don’t go all out for visitors, but we do want to make sure they have a good time.

Finally though I can draw smutty things in my evenings.  I think this week put be behind 2 or 3 drawings for the Tink folio so I have some catching up to do.  Plus in that time I’ve thought up some other pics that I’d like to start on as well.  One is an old character I named Namir.  It’s bee a long while since I’ve drawn anything of her and I think I’m ready to end that.  Should be fun and I’m looking forward to it. ^_^

Missed Birthdays?

Holy crap… I think I forgot call my Dad on his birthday.  Holy crap… I forgot to call my Step Mom on her birthday.  I say think for my Dad because I’m not sure if it’s this month or last month.  If it’s this month, then I’m good and still have a few days so I’m safe.  If it was last month, well then I’m screwed.  My Step Mom’s birthday was last month for sure so I know I missed that one.  I’ll have to call her and apologize.

How are you for remembering birthdays?  I remember the birthday of everyone under my roof, but if you life out side the house… Don’t expect a card or a call from me.  Nothing personal, I just have a horrible memory.

Penny Collecting

Today I’ve started coin collecting… sort of.  See this year the Canadian Government has decided to stop making pennies.  From what they’re saying, it’s because it actually costs more to make one penny then what it’s worth and a very low percentage of Canadians actually use the penny.  May the  4th marks the day when the very last penny was pressed at the Canadian Mint and since then there all kinds of penny drives to collect as many as you can and donate them to a charitable cause.

I on the other hand have decided to try and collect one penny for each year it was pressed.  I have a small jar in the basement that hasn’t been touched in about 10 years.  So tonight I opened it up and started to see what I had and what I was missing.  Apparently I stopped putting pennies in the jar around 2003 since that’s the more current one in there.  Then they travel back in time each year until the year 1971.  After that I have most of the 60’s and a few 50’s.  The oldest one I have is 1952 (It has the King on it!), but I think I have one at work even older.  It’s neat to think about the history and the travels that the oldest pennies have taken.  Where did they start?  What purchases where they used in.  Everything has a history and I love to imagine them.

Not sure what I’ll do with them really.  I just figured they’d be a cool thing to show any future grandchildren.  Who knows… maybe they’ll be worth something more then a penny one day.  Do you collect anything?

Edwardian Farm

A strange as it my sound, I’m a huge fan of historical documentaries.  I never used to be.  I used to be all about technology and anything modern.  As I got older though I found an appreciation for history.  With that being said, I recently found a show on TVOntario (or BBC) called Edwardian Farm.  It’s a historical documentary where three people lived the lives of Edwardian Farmers (1900 – 1915) in Devon Engalnd. The three people where two archeologists and one historian, so they knew what they where getting in to.  But, they did have to live the way they did back then and keep the farm going and turn a profit.  They took on the all the odd jobs too that farmers would have done to make extra money too.

Every episode showed one month in this experiment so it only ran 12 shows.  During that time there where a whole list of experts that still kept to the old ways to show them exactly how things where done or how to use the antique machines.  It was absolutely amazing to see how things where done and how hard they had to work to survive.  I often would wonder what I would have done if I was alive back then.  I’m not much of a farmer, but I think I could have been an artisan of some sort, metal or wood work of some kind.

Anyway, if you dig historical things I highly recommend you check out the show.  There are actually more to the series.  There is Victorian Farm, which I’ve yet to see, and Victorian Pharmacy.  Which was got me hooked on this whole series.  You can watch other Edwardian Farm episodes here at TVOntario.  Not sure if people outside of Canada can watch these episodes.  I hope so because they are awesome.

Family Visitor

I currently have family visiting me for the week.  Which means it’s hard to make posts and impossible to draw any thing naughty.  I’m not upset about it though, it’s good to keep in contact with family and it’s some thing I don’t do as much of as I should.  I guess it’s like a forced break from my hobbies.  We play host and hostess as we watch shows, play games or go on special trips to see things in the area that we probably wouldn’t normally go and see.  It’s a lot of fun and I do enjoy it.

I do find that  I (as I’m sure most are) am more mindful of my actions when we have guests.  Like, I tend not to fart in front of my Mother if she is visiting or we’ll talk about things that are more relevant to others so we can all enjoy conversations.  It is nice though when they leave so you can unbuckle your belt and burp when you please again.  Not that I do that when we don’t have guests… well… maybe the burping. ^_^
