question period – post 153

Stumped on a post this evening Joe decides to turn the tables and leave things to the readers to fill the gap.

If anyone has a question for me regarding… well… just about anything.  I’ll do my best to answer it.

Don’t be shy.  Ask away ^_^

indie games: Tag der arbeit – post 152

Tag der arbeit

This is possibly one of my favorite flash game.  You play as a little pixel German punk that’s on a vandal spree.  Wander around the city and set cars on fire and throw rocks at windows for points and avoid the cops.  That’s pretty much it.  Oh, you can duck in side of doors and find secret passages through buildings to lose them when you’re running from them.  You can also find secret areas that give more time to the clock.

I love the look of this game… mostly because I love pixel work.  But above all, I love the music of this game.  It really brings the whole thing together.

Oh, and the whole site is in German too.  So if anyone wants to give me a actual translation about the site that would be very cool ^_^

homebrew naughtiness – post 151

So at the next Komiket (Japanese Comic Market) it’s been announced that a homebrew DS hentai game will be available for the public. Woah! Really? Yup, really… it’s not licensed by Nintendo or anything so you’ll need a flash cart to let it I would assume, but I guess there is rumour that it’ll be available in Akihabara after Komiket though.

I wonder if this will open more doors for this type of DS homebrew. I’m more surprised that it took this long really. I really home we see more, because… well… I’m a pervert ^_^

Oh! I never mentioned the name of the title. It’s Half Elf Tentacle Assault and so one can assume it has tentacles in it. Not really my bag, but I’ll be sure to try it out as soon as I can.

Aww, yeah ^_^

I can't dance – post 150

I have nothing to post about this evening…

So um…what did you do last night?  I watched So You Think You Can Dance with my wife.  She’s a huge fan of the show and I have to admit that I like it too.  It’s great to watch these incredibly skilled dancers do what they love to do.  It makes me wish I could dance ^_^ I enjoy the show very much.

So yeah… what did you do?

cart hacks – post 149

So the other day I talked about those fake artsy Famicom cartridges. Well today I’m talking about real, fake Famicom carts. Wait… what?

What I’m talking about are those Chinese hacked NES games. I found a site that had a huge list of them and some of them look pretty good. Although I’m sure most, if not all, play like crap. Scanning though all these though takes me back to my early NES days, just like looking at those art carts. So of my favorite game memories come from games just like these… well. Not really like these, but from this era of games.

Even though these aren’t “real”, approved games it does look like a decent amount of work was put in to making them. So it makes you wonder, was it better to just whip out a hack or put effort in to making a decent title. Although, there are a lot of just hacking the game and swaping some tiles and sprites to call it a new game.

Anyway, have a look though the list. There are some “fun” NES versions of some titles you wouldn’t really expect. Like Golden Axe, Zelda: Minish Cap, Titanic, Resident Evil… the list goes on and on.

There is crown jewel though. It’s a demake of Final Fantasy VIII.Yup, pretty much the whole story line of that PS classic is in there. How awesome is that? It’s a whole freaking bucket of awesome is what it is. You can find more screens of it here. It looks great too. If this was release as a real NES game back in the day… it would have blown our minds… heck, it blows my mind now.

It makes me want to give my NES a hug ^_^
