Garbage Picker
We lost something today. A bite guard. Pretty sure it accidentally got thrown out and I’m pretty sure I was the one that did it. It was left on the kitchen counter and in my rush to clean up I think I might have picked it up and tossed it. So, I did the proper thing and I went through a full bag of kitchen garbage to find it. No dice. We then looked around the house and I even checked the garbage baskets around the house. Still nothing. I even went and checked the kitchen garbage a second time and looked through it like it was a crime scene.  Sadly, I wasn’t able to find it. I guess that means it’s still in the house some where… the question is… where. If you know, please let me know.
Have you ever had to dig through the garbage to find something? It’s not fun.

I’ve once literally crawled into a trash can when I was 9 because I thought a piece of my new transformer was thrown away. I looked through it for a full 5 minutes before giving up. I’ve still yet to find that engine/gun.
I’ve also done some dumpster diving looking for stuff that was tossed after a church garage sale and at the end of the semesters from the two colleges in town. I’ve found some nifty stuff that way.

One time I dropped my glasses in the toilet. Even after cleaning them off I felt gross putting them on. Fortunately, the toilet was not ‘occupied’, if you know what I mean.

I used to work at a restaurant in high school. Started out as a dish washer. Dish washers also get all the crap duties, like digging through a dumpster for some old person’s dentures. If you thought going through your trash was bad, imagine going through an entire restaurant’s trash. To this day I am still haunted by the smell….

I’m gonna guess that you’ve already checked the relevant mouth. I partially jest by saying that, but I have ‘lost’ things in more obvious places before. As far as digging through trash goes, I have a vague recollection of having done so before, but I can’t recall the specifics (potato and carrot peals come to mind). I do, however (in the spirit of things lost in an unpleasant manner), remember a younger cousin eating a couple of my Lego bricks as a kid, which my aunt later returned to me. … They never made it back to the bin.

I have to say that I might be able to beat that. I’m missing a tooth in my mouth (random information, but relevant), so I have a retainer to take it’s place and when this took place, I had to take it out.
Well, during my 30-min break from work, I ran over to Taco Bell. I took my retainer out and set it on the tray, like I always did, but this time I forgot to take it off the tray. At this point in time, I’ve been wearing this retainer for so long, I don’t feel any different while wearing it and not. Let’s just say, I noticed that it was missing about an hour later, making me have to tear open the garbage bags at the Bell to find it.
I didn’t feel like having it in my mouth for a while…

Ugh… that’s horrible. I remember back when I used to work at Harvey’s, the new recruits had to pick through garbage bags to rescue food trays. Lucky the bags where clear so you could easily see where they where… if you call that lucky at all.
