Camera Question

Okay people, I’ve asked about computers for a future purchase, but now I ask you this.  My wife and I just might buy a new camera in the next few weeks as our current one is getting on in years.  I’d like a fancy one, but my wife wants one that’s not overly complicated and still good for point and shoot moments.  Our past cameras have all been Cannons and we seem to do well with them, but are there other brands that are better or just as good?  Which ones should we stay away from?

Update: I’m willing to spend $250 – $300 but would like to spent less.  The camera needs to suit a simple point and click style of photography for my wife but have options I can mess with so I can take more fancy shots.

the only thing i know is that you shouldnt get a cheap one. the cheap kodak that i have takes decent pictures, but any video that i take, the sound is weird on after the first thirty seconds or so. I dont know if its kodak or any cheap camera, all i know is that my videos of a really interesting lecture that a guest speaker at my college gave got ruined by it 🙁

    Hey Joe,

I pearsonally think that the fujifilm ‘bridge’ cameras are excellent compromise cameras, they have a good selection of setting or ‘auto’ as well as decnet mid-sized sensors and good optical zoom. I have used an S2000HD for years now and still love it. Some linky goodness for your consideration:

    The one I use.

The question is, what would you like to do with it? Shall it be used for snapshots or are you looking for some more professional equipment?
What would you like to spend?
I am trying my luck with a Sony Alpha A33 …. wich matches my preferences quite well.

And i am sorry for my bad english skills due i am from germany.

Also noch einen angenehmen Abend dir !

    Hey Joe,

i maybe can recommend my everyday cam: http://www.amazon.com/Fujifilm-FinePix-Real-3D-W3/dp/B003ZHV70M/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1339234589&sr=8-1
it shows a superb quality for a “normal” style cam + is also able to work a bit more “artsy” due to its 2 lenses and 3d abillity.
And its afoordable (if i remember right, the starting price in Germany was once around 900$)

just saw your new camera post, and i would probably stick with a cannon, or a Fuji. it depends what sort of camera your looking for though. because the two main types of Fuji are the Fuji finepix, which are more, manual zoom photography cameras, but with simple interfaces. or there’s Fuji film, which are more the cameras for days out to take pictures when your out and about with your family, they are basic digital cameras which are standard cameras in the UK. but to be honest its really depends on what you do more. Matt.
