Christmas Decorations

Christmas decorations went up in my house today.  Did they go up in yours or did you already have them up?  I know some people who put them up the day after Halloween.  No fool’n!  November 1st the scary stuff comes down and the tree goes up.  That’s a bit early for me.  We normally do them towards the end of November, so this is late for us.  This year we also thumbed our noses at LED lights.  They just don’t have the same look and feel as the old ones do.  So we went and bought some of those in stead.  Not sure what we’ll do with the LEDs.  Maybe put them out side or something.  We also have a fake tree.  I’m not particular on real ones.  My Dad got a real tree for years, but he’s since converted too fake as well.  We got our current tree about 6 years ago and spent a little extra for it because it looks like a real tree.  So much so that we’ve fooled more than a few people with it and that alone makes me happy. ^_^

outside lights went up a few weeks ago. inside lights went up a little before thanksgiving, the tree just got put up today. we space it out based on the weather so that we arent putting the lights up outside when its cold and snowing but so that the tree and inside lights arent up way to early. i dislike skipping holidays, so i try not to let decorating for christmas happen before thanksgiving is over, and i certainly avoid all christmas music till after thanksgiving. but there is always an exception to the rule and mine is, reindeer themed furry pictures. as far as i’m concerned those are ok all year round lol.

I put mine up about a week before Thanksgiving. It was nice outside and I didn’t want to wait til December when its too cold to spend a lot of time setting up lights. Come January though, I’ll have to dress warm to remove them. At least they come down faster than putting them up.

We (my wife and I) don’t usually put up decorations, but I do have fond memories of x-mas decorations. My mother studied interior design, and was/is very good at it, so our house always had superb decorations when we were children. She also never used/s fake greens/trees. Something about a few feet of snow outside, while inside one enjoys a nice cup of hot chocolate surrounded by the smell of evergreens, the warmth of a fireplace, and the lights from various wreaths/trees just makes me feel utterly relaxed…. Maybe we should put up some decorations this year. Let’s hope for snow….

IME it’s the white LEDs lights that have the problem. The coloured ones are OK because the tinting in the bulb diffuses the brilliant light of the LED. If you can find them, try ones with frosted bulbs.

As for putting the LEDs outside: Remember to check that they are rated for outdoor use.

I share an apartment with 2 of my friends. A few days ago I came home from work and they had already put up a fake tree, lights and all. I decided it needed some more decoration, so I rounded up a bunch of old video game controllers, games, and nick-knacks and put them on the tree. I even managed to place the golden NES Legend of Zelda cartridge at the top of the tree in place of the star. When they came home later that day, they were amazed at the pure awesome of our nerd tree.
