All Art Has Stopped

I’ve taken on an art job recently to help with paying for a family trip.  It’s a side job from what I do at work and in no way is competition to my career, but because I of this all my fun extra art has come to a halt.  Tinkerbell folio has come full stop and my Christmas pic has slowed as well.  This job is quick money that will come in very handy, but it sucks that it takes away from the art I’d rather be doing.  Ah, well.  In life we always have to do things we’d rather not be from time to time.  It’s not that the job sucks.  It’s just not the fun art I prefer to do.

The good news is, is that this job is almost done.  I should have it done in the next few days actually.  Then I can get back to drawing Tink and my Christmas pic.  Yay!  But chances are there will be only one instead of two.

What jobs have you had to do that sort of suck, but not quite?  Just enough to make you want to get back to doing what you love.

joe, you do that art job, and you do it good. you’re awesome, and you can take all the time you need. if i had the opportunity to get some extra money on the side right now, i’d be doing it. i really need money to start coming in over the next few months, so i can get myself something quite awesome before MFF 2013. so you do whatever it takes to get that family trip, because it will totally be worth it. dont worry about us, there are plenty of other websites that we can use as compensation for yours, even if none of them are as good (kiss ass kiss ass kiss ass) lol.

Well, RL first. There´s a german saying: “Erst die Arbeit, dann das Vergnügen” (“First work, then fun” or “Job first, fun second”). See you again when you got the time. 🙂

Earlier this year I painted a mural for a friend of my brother’s daughter. It was a tree that she would add a leaf to for every book she read. I added some animals around the tree reading books too (A rabbit reading ‘Watership Down’, a cardinal bird reading ‘The Shoes Of The Fisherman’, etc.) My payment for it was a new computer system. My brother and his friend constructed it out of other systems and it runs better than some brand new systems. I really enjoyed painting it for her so it wasn’t a sucky job. Next time though, I will insist on cash.

When the art flow stops, all eyes will turn to Joe Randel’s blog.

As to your question. Not sure if this really counts, but I once worked at a music store that had both repair and retail components. Unfortunately for me, I was much better than all of my coworkers at the retail side. Even though I was hired to work on the repair side, I usually was sent into the front of the house to deal with customers. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t mind working with customers, but I much preferred fixing stuff.
