Geek Chic

When did being a geek become trendy or… normal.  When I was a kid, others made it their job to let you know that it wasn’t cool being nerdy.  I’m not saying that that doesn’t happen today, but it looks more widely accepted then a few decades ago.  I wonder this because I was out for free comic book day on the weekend I saw quite a lot of cute geek girls.  That for sure  didn’t happen when I was a teenager.  Although, if I was younger, I’d probably strike out with the trendy geeks too.  Anyhoo, all this thinking made me realize that I’ve never drawn a character with glasses.  So there you go.  One adorable geek girl. ^_^

I could have sworn that RSG wore glasses once or twice.

You’re right, though. There are more cute geek girls out there than in my day. Went to a con about a decade ago and was amazed even then at how many good looking girls were there. I can only image that there are more nowadays. Hope the trend of nerd culture becoming more mainstream continues.

That sound more sexist than I intended. There is a greater diversity of people in general in the culture than there used to be. I think that the inclusion of cute girls is so striking to me because when I was growing up girls wanted nothing to do with geeky guys.

I’ll shut up, lest I shove my foot any farther into my mouth.

Yeah to bad that hipsters are jumping on a geek
train and will ruin it like evrything they found
    interest in.
